There are lots of similarities between Anakin and Rey. They are both great mechanics, they are both expert pilots, they seem to have a special relationship with droids and they are strong with the Force. They have so much in common that some people believe that maybe Anakin didn't accomplish everything he had to as the Chosen One from the prophecy. People believe that Anakin had some unfinished work, maybe he didn't complete his destiny and, so, he reincarnated as Rey.........Let's analyze this theory and see where it goes:
- Did Anakin complete his destiny?
Most people that defend the reincarnation theory believe that Anakin returned as Rey because he didn't complete his task as the Chosen One, who was supposed to bring balance to the Force..........but is it right? Let's think for a second: the Force must be in balance and that means that not only the dark, but also the light must be controlled and, at the time of the prequels, there were about 10,000 Jedis (according to Wookieepedia) and only a few Siths. I know that most of you will probably remind that George Lucas said that the Siths must be destroyed to balance the Force......
First, it doesn't matter what George Lucas thinks, the only thing that is valid is what is shown in the movies. Second, it's indeed logical that the Siths unbalance the force a lot more than the Jedis, so a small number of Siths are able to unbalance the force more than lots of Jedis........but at the time of the prequels there were THOUSANDS more Jedis than Siths, so it's obvious that the light was unbalancing the Force more than the dark........
When Anakin became Darth Vader and helped to destroy the Jedi Order, he was accomplishing part of his task: he was helping to weaken the light, which was the side that was unbalancing the Force the most at the time. Of course the dark became the dominant side and the Force was still unbalanced, but that period was necessary. Weaken the light was the first part of the task, and the second part was to take the power from the dark side, which was accomplished during the Battle of Endor, when Darth Vader killed Palpatine and, consequently, the Empire collapsed. This was when Anakin accomplished the Chosen One destiny: the dark side was destroyed (at least for a while) and the light wasn't so strong as in the prequels.........
So, it doesn't make sense that Anakin returned as Rey to fulfill his destiny, because he had already done so.........however, it makes a lot more sense if the Chosen One turns out to be in some kind of reincarnation cycle in order to keep the Force in balance, such as it happens in the Avatar series.
Lots of people will say that it can't happen because reincarnation isn't in the Star Wars universe.........and so what? Neither was the Chosen One theory and the midichlorians, but the prequels incorporated those things in the saga. Anyway, it's totally okay that the new trilogy brings up things that weren't explored before, as long as it makes sense to the story.........
When we think about it, this reincarnation cycle theory explains a lot of things and corrects some apparent flaws in the saga, such as the fact that Anakin became a Force Ghost without any kind of training. I mean, Obi-Wan and Master Yoda spent years training to achieve that, while Anakin accomplished it without making the slightest effort.
The only explanation for it is that he is the Chosen One and, consequently, the consciousness of his life as Anakin (as well as the other past lives) is automatically preserved. You must be wondering: if he is always going to be a Force Ghost, how is he going to reincarnate? Well, the fact that the consciousness of his past life remained alived doens't mean that his spirit can't reincarnate. I know it's a little bit confusing, but if you watched the Avatar series, you will understand what I am talking about: you probably remember that Aang was able to talk with his past lives once in a while in order to receive advices from them and sometimes he was even helped by them.

So, it's totally possible that, if this theory turns out to be right, Rey will be able to talk with the Force Ghost of Anakin (which is obviously not her spirit, only the consciousness of her past life that remained alive) and maybe even to her other past lives. She will probably receive advices from them and maybe even be helped by them, like Aang did.........
This theory also explains why Rey could use her power in an incredible way, even though she didn't have any training. In the beginning of the Avatar series, Aang wasn't a very good fighter yet, but, when he was in his "Avatar state", he could do incredible things that he couldn't normally do.

- Reincarnation theory and Rey's deep connection with the Force
The "Avatar state" somehow resembles what happened with Rey during her fight with Kylo Ren: she was losing it but when she closed her eyes and connected with the Force, she was able to easily defeat him.........and, let's agree, it's hard to believe that everyone would be able to do that. I mean, no matter how much connected with the Force you are, you probably won't be able to defeat your highly trained opponent in a fight if you have never had any kind of training for that. So, the only explanation for what she did is that she connected with some kind of "Chosen One power" (maybe Anakin and her other past lives were helping her).
This theory also explains the whole "midichlorian conception" thing. It didn't seem to make sense that Anakin was conceived by midichlorians, but now it fits perfectly this theory: the Chosen One spirit was invoked by the Force in order to balance it and, like we explained, Anakin accomplished his mission. However, the First Order started to emerge from the shadows and, even though it wasn't so powerful yet, it was a huge threat to the Force balance (or maybe it was already unbalanced), that's why the Chosen One spirit was invoked again, which reincarnated as Rey.
Yes, if the theory turns out to be right, then Rey was conceived the way Anakin did, by the midichlorians. I know that most of the fans would hate to hear that term again, so Disney would probably refer to it in a different way, something like "Rey was made by the Force to bring balance to it". In fact, maybe that explains why she was abandonned in the first place: her mother was probably too scared to keep a baby that came out of nowhere and gave it to someone else.
So, it's possible that whomever Rey considers family aren't her biological relatives. They probably didn't even care about her and it's possible that they sold her to Unkar Plutt in order to have enough money to leave Jakku. They left Rey behind and probably lied to her, saying that they would come back, that's why she still had hope that they would.......
- If the theory turns out to be right, why people in Star Wars didn't know about it?
You must be wondering: if the Chosen One is in some kind of reincarnation cycle, so why people didn't know about it, such as in the Avatar series? Well, the Avatar reincarnation cycle happens in a single world, not in a whole galaxy like in the Star Wars theory. So, it's difficult to realize that there is someone made by the Force reincarnating every now and then in the galaxy.
Besides, in the Avatar series, the reincarnation cycle is uninterrupted: when the Avatar dies, the spirit reincarnates right after. In the Star Wars theory, though, the reincarnation only happens when the Force is out of balance or when it will potentially be. So, the reincarnation frequency is much less than in the Avatar series, which makes it even more difficult for people in the Star Wars universe to find out what is happening.
That's it guys, I know that most of you don't want to see this reincarnation stuff in Star Wars, but the truth is that it can turn out to be a nice thing if it's carefully done, without that "you are my father" bullshit........
Yeah, we definitely don't want that crappy dialogue........anyway, the Avatar series explored reincarnation in a very brilliant way and I am sure that Disney would be able to do the same. Besides, it's one of the few theories that actually makes sense and that corrects some flaws in the new and old trilogies!

Star Wars Kisses,
Tati.
One thing you left out...Dave Filoni worked on both Avatar and Rebels...maybe this theory is true!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know about it.....very nice! I hope the theory is true, I think it would fit perfectly the story, but they must do it carefully so as not to turn out to be something stupid.
